Barolo Giacomo Conterno Risreva Monfortina 2010

“Utterly compelling… A vivid, thrilling wine, the 2010 will soon take its place among the greatest Monfortinos ever made.” – Antonio Galloni

  • TASTING NOTES

If you’d like to own a bottle of perfection, then this is it. Conterno’s Barolo Riserva Monfortino is like the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa: an ultimate combination of finesse and power, award-winning, sleek polished curves, racy, unmistakably Italian and precious few will ever have the joy of experiencing it. Under the hood, you’ll discover a formidable engine pumping wild hedgerow berries, leather, liquorice, rose petals, truffle, orange peel and hot tar. It will run for decades and decades, but it’s virtually impossible to keep your hands off now.

Probably Piedmont’s finest producer and there can be no better proponent of ‘traditional’ Barolo than Giacomo Conterno. The winery has passed from Giacomo, to Giovanni, and now resides in the hands of Roberto. Their flagship Barolo Riserva Monfortino is only made in outstanding vintages, using the best grapes from the Cascina Francia vineyard, which undergo a long maceration and extended ageing is huge oak casks called botti for seven years. 2010 is according to Wine Advocate the greatest Barolo vintage to date, making the top wine from Conterno a real once in a lifetime opportunity.
